With more than 20 venues elsewhere in the world, meglomaniacal club brand Pacha was always going to have England's swinging capital in its sights. So in 2000 the franchise team set about the process of refurbishing a beautiful 1920s building on Terminus Place, just a short stroll from Victoria Station. A year later Pacha London was gifted unto the world.
It swiftly emulated its glamorous Ibiza cousin, becoming a desirable destination in a competitive market. Weeding out the wannabes has always been a priority so a 21+ policy has been instituted. Equally important is to look the part, if only to match the opulent period decor.
Much of the original oak paneling is still in place, and the stained glass ceiling will have interior design divas falling to their knees in appreciation.
Musically the various varieties of house predominate, played over a sound system that meets Pacha's exacting standards of sonic excellence. There is one main dance floor, overlooked and surround by an upstairs balcony, a second room with its own sound system and a terrace in summer.
On Friday and Saturday nights, VIP tables in private, sumptuous booths big enough for up to 10 people are available for hire. Waitresses, fruit and nibbles are supplied. Pacha London's total capacity is 900.
