Going out doesn't have to be about the self-absorbed pursuit of pleasure - not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that. But if you yearn for something a little more substantial you can participate in 70 years years of London's "independent intellectual, political and cultural life" just by attending events at Conway Hall.
It's not all chamber music and lectures at Red Lion Square, up to 500 jazz and folk fans have enjoyed critically acclaimed performances from Badly Drawn Boy, Beth Orton and the luscious Juana Molina.
The "dignified and commodious" building has several rooms suitable for a variety of functions and even boasts a grand piano for "bona fide classical music events".
There are no pre-existing bars tho alcohol may be served if the applicable licence has been obtained.
The Ethical Society that runs Conway Hall promises to always be the on the vanguard of the most progressive outlook of the day" and "provide a forum for all manner of social controversies", a freethinking approach of which Moncure Conway (left, who gives his name to hall) would no doubt have approved.
