AuraUnited Kingdom
Aura Kitchen and Bar opened in April 2003, located under the Caviar House on St. James Street, SW1.
Aura is an intimate yet funky bar and restaurant created by a group of friends led by the award winning mixologist David Serlui. The design was overseen by Rupert Meeker (co-founder of the funky label Buddist Punk) and the designer Steve Crummack.
A wooden decked staircase leads from St. James down to the restaurant. A sleek hallway leads to one large room with a mahogany cocktail bar stretching across the back wall, above which classic black and white silent movies are projected. Rich plum leather banquettes clad the three other walls, over which, are wide strips of tinted mirror complimenting the two impressive modernist chandeliers, which once lit the ballroom at Claridges.
An array of comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged in the centre of the space. All the tables are hydraulically adjustable for either dining or sipping cocktails as required, and the lighting system is multi facetted, washing the space with whatever colour and intensity is desired to set the mood. Hence the space at Aura can be transformed into many different guises. The overall atmosphere is evocative of a laid back New York Lounge bar.
