Get Loaded in the Park 2008
on 24th Aug 2008 from 12:00PM to 9:00PM
GET LOADED IS BACK
Returning for its 5th year of indie-crazed-rock and electro-jackin-dance, Lock N Load Events presents London’s definitive inner city festival Get Loaded in the Park (in association with Timeout) as we swagger back into town on Bank Holiday Sunday 24th August 2008 for another epic encounter on the capital’s finest field – Clapham Common. Get Loaded’s award-winning festival hit heady new heights last summer with a critically acclaimed line-up boasting The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, M.I.A, The Wombats, Dirty Pretty Things, The Go! Team, Yoda and 2manydjs amongst many others. Nominated at the UK Festival Awards for Best Medium Sized Festival, GLITP07 was widely acknowledged as the best Get Loaded yet!
5 years on from that hedonist debut day of getting loaded on the Common - where we devilishly reformed the Happy Mondays, Get Loaded in the Park 2008 has again upped the ante to deliver our strongest line-up EVER, packed full of festival exclusives, iconic geniuses and the best of the nu-skool brigade. Spanning more musical genres than ever before and offering you the ultimate festival experience right bang slap in the middle of your back yard... ladies and gentlemen, this summer it’s time to GET LOADED IN THE PARK.
THIS YEAR’S HEADLINER IS...
IGGY & THE STOOGES
It is our great honour and pleasure to announce that Iggy & The Stooges are this year’s headline band at Get Loaded in the Park and will be closing the curtain on this summers show. In Iggy Pop, you have one of the world’s all-time greats. The quintessential front man; an innovator and a leader. Having reformed Iggy & The Stooges in 2003, ‘The Stooges’ features original members Ron (guitar) and Scott Asheton (drums), plus Mike Watt on bass and Steve Mackay on Sax. Back on the road since then, Iggy & The Stooges have smashed Reading & Leeds, played at Hammersmith Apollo - their first London performance since 1972 and brought the roof down at last year’s Glastonbury, with Iggy now infamously inviting fans onto the stage during his performance of ‘No Fun’ (Youtube link below)! Having celebrated his 60th Birthday in April 2007, Iggy Pop remains one of the greatest ever musical icons. With The Stooges, the albums ‘The Stooges’, ‘Fun House’ and ‘Raw Power’ and singles ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ and ‘No Fun’ (all recorded between 1967–1974 during their first spell together) stand the test of time as pioneering (alternative) punk rock recordings. Loved and renowned for his wild stage antics and touted to be the original founder of the ‘stage dive’... we welcome Iggy & The Stooges to the Common this August Bank Holiday weekend for what should be a truly unforgettable and magical day.

GET LOADED MAIN STAGE
The build up to Iggy & co’s spectacular finale will be rather special this summer as we invite Brit-pop heroes Supergrass and gypsy punk kings Gogol Bordello to share centre stage. Living young, free and keeping their teeth nice and clean, Supergrass will be bringing back the spirit of the 1990’s and bringing us right up to date with their highly acclaimed new album ‘Diamond Hoo Ha’. With six Top 20 albums under their belts and countless classic hits like ‘Alright’, ‘Pumping on your Stereo’, ‘Moving’ and ‘Richard III’... Supergrass are without doubt one of the most highly regarded and accomplished bands in the UK. They are at their best when playing live (as witnessed at Lock N Load Events’ Electric Gardens festival last year!) and that’s exactly why they’ll be playing before Iggy & The Stooges on the big day. Warming the stage and bringing with them a rainbow of colour will be NYC’s multi-ethnic gypsy punkers Gogol Bordello. Described by Phil Jupitus as “a bit like The Clash and The Pogues having a fight… in Eastern Europe” – the band incorporates minor-key accordion and fiddle, mixed with cabaret, punk and dub!! Gogol’s talisman is Ukrainian visionary Eugene Hütz, whose unpredictable antics on stage have made a huge star. The band formed in 1999, and an international fan base quickly grew through word of mouth. In 2002 Gogal Bordello released their debut album ‘Voi-La Intruder’ (co-produced by Nick Cave) and it wasn’t long before Gogol Bordello's live shows and Hütz's captivating performances earned them invites to some of the world’s biggest stages. Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Reading/Leeds confirmed them as grassroots phenomenon’s; underlined by a recent sell-out show at Brixton Academy. Heck, the band even performed with Madonna at the London Live Earth concert last year! Definitely a band worth getting loaded too this summer, don’t miss it!!
XFM ARENA
London’s leading indie/rock station XFM continues its love affair with Get Loaded in the Park as they step it up a gear for 2008 with their biggest line-up to date. First up is tent headliner and Brit Award winner Kate Nash. Nominated for three Brit Awards, Kate scooped Best British Female Solo, to put on his mantelpiece alongside her Best Solo Artist from this year’s NME Awards. She made her mark last year with the UK no.1 album ‘Made of Bricks’ which is fast approaching a million sales worldwide. ‘Foundations’ was a summer smash and confirmed her place as the UK’s hottest new singer/songwriter. Next up are Sheffield’s Reverend & The Makers - the insanely popular indie/electro/Madchester-esque/funk band signed to Wall of Sound. The ‘Reverend’ aka Jon McClure and his band smashed into our senses with Top 10 single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ and support tours with Arctic Monkeys, The Verve and Ian Brown and their own sell-out shows at the Roundhouse show just how ‘on the up’ this lot are. Get Loaded salutes you! Another rising band are The Maccabees. Described as “the best new band in Britain” by the NME, the Brighton outfit are one of those ‘must-see’ bands live and any track off their ‘Colour It In’ album will make you move!!! Our final XFM act (for now...!) are Ipso Facto – spiritual cousins to the Horrors and the UK’s coolest new girl-group. Propping the bar tent at a festival near you this summer, Get Loaded are right behind this Elastica-esque 4-piece garage rockers, who have shedloads of substance to back up their abundant style. XFM’s cult presenters John Kennedy & Eddie Temple Morris keep the entertainment following.
TOGETHER / TIMEOUT DANCE STAGE
Not one for leaving out the dance kids, this year’s mentalism-tent is hosted by London’s leading purveyors of electronical music and all round sillyness, Together – in association with Timeout. Housed at Turnmills until recently Together is a raver’s paradise and the line-up on the Common is perfect for a proper summer’s day mash-up! Headlining the stage are the undisputed festival kings/queens Gossip featuring the ‘Coolest Person in Rock’ (NME Cool List, 2006) Beth Ditto on lead vocals. Gossip’s single ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ is a mega hit. Made even more popular by yoof TV show Skins; it’s the song for the Myspace generation. Born and raised in Arkansas, USA, Gossip have been adopted by the British public, in the same way that Scissor Sisters did before them. Beth Ditto is herself an iconic star in her right now and as an outspoken advocate of gay rights, she is a powerful role model with an even more powerful voice! Gossip’s live shows are legendary and we wouldn’t want anyone else to close the Together stage than them. Belgium’s finest 2manydjs return for a second year, this time under their Soulwax moniker. Performing their acclaimed ‘Nite Versions’ show (live versions of their groundbreaking remixes for Klaxons, Justice, Digitalism, Daft Punk, LCD, Robbie Williams et al), prepare for something extra special from the kings of the dance. There’s more live antics too in the shape of The Presets - Modular’s uber-slick electronic duo. Back on form with album no.2 ‘Apocalypso’, the follow up to the brilliant ‘Beams’, expect a high-octane set from our favourite Aussies. On a DJ tip, Together invites some of its biggest names to the floor, with party-starter Mylo making a rare guest appearance on the decks alongside German noise-maker Boys Noize - the hottest new name on the electronic scene over the past few years. His ‘Oi Oi Oi’ album was one of the best albums of 2007 and he’ll comfortably fill the footsteps of MSTRKRFT, Tiga, Erol and Digitalism from recent years. And finally... Together residents and the Kitsune-signed Streetlife DJs throw their consideration weight on proceedings, with their own fearless genre-busting mash-up and re-edits, alongside the up-and-coming Union DJs – our new tips for the top!
